I live in Oklahoma, and this was all over the news. Too bad though, the residents spoke up and said FUCK YOU PETA, and the name was not changed. Besides, it wasn't named for the slaughter of animals, the name of the guy or girl who founded the town had the last name of Slaughter. Of course, I wouldn't want my town named for a shitty 80s glam rock band either. :D
