great point KHZ--
I found this to back up any aspiring dj's out there.

"While exploring the vastness of minidisc.org I found a valuable tidbit of law from Cornell University's Legal Information Institute. TITLE 17> CHAPTER 10> SUBCHAPTER D> Sec. 1008 - Prohibition on certain infringement actions reads, in part:
"No action may be brought under this title...based on the noncommercial use by a consumer of...a [recording] device or [recording] medium for making digital musical recordings or analog musical recordings."
Being a mixer myself I was surprised (and happy) to find this out. The address is "http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/17/1008.html" if you want to check it out. This means, in my interpretation, that mixed tapes and mixed CDs are completely legal under U.S. law. Even if a copyright owner wished to press charges they would not be able to, provided there was no sale involved.
NOW YOU KNOW 'CAN'T BEAT THE SYSTEM!!!
