According to the advertising pundits, the first two commercials were made to get people talking online. The intense negativity and 'What the fuck is this shit?' reactions were the desired responses so that when the new commercials were revealed the same debate/buzz/momentum would carry on, and the pendulum would swing back in Microsoft's favor.
Or so I've heard.
My wife thought the above commercial seemed like two members of a royal family slumming around with peasants so they could return to their castle and feel smug.
