I think the problem is that they make most of their money selling licenses to large companies. To validate the price of an upgrade/update to the panels in charge of big business budgets, they need shiny new features and gadgets that they can show off.
What does big business care about install times? They have a standard build that the IT department just clones off to a new HDD whenever someone needs a system.
As large as the home user base might be, corporate accounts are where the real cash is. Even if the licenses are sold off at a deep discount, the business still has to buy a license for every system they deploy with Adobe's products installed.
The home user is still going to use it because its the standard being taught in schools and has the most resources available on the web. They take it in the ass because they want/need to be able to market their product/service to the largest audience possible.
Adobe has got a fucking stranglehold with their products, and it looks like there is fuck all that we can do about it.
