since i grew up in the bay area, i'm not really sure what the impression is of san francisco.

philly seemed to be a city that said, 'you ought to be authentic.' that is to say, for a west coaster, there was a marked lack of bullshit and pretension. philly is a decaying city, a cheap cost of living, a ton of history, and many universities. you got a pretty unique mix of career criminals, dumbass loudmouths, and students/former students, but the feelings to me was always that if you were a native then you were, at the very least, honest.

nice read 'Most people overvalue negative amounts of money: they'll work much harder to avoid losing a dollar than to gain one.'....that describes a lot of people I know. I'll try not to be like that on my next trip to the casino.

cool beans. i often wondered why something like silicon valley didn't spring up somewhere with a lower cost of living since a software company doesn't require any specific location requirements. now i kinda know.
