evolution does not, as a rule, lead to 'more complex' organisms. in fact, evolution can lead to less complexity, equal complexity, or more complexity.
human society is much the same: while we are at a point that is surely unprecedented, it is not 'better' or 'inevitable,' nor can we say for sure that it will continue indefinitely, or even into the relatively near future.
society has, to anyone with some fuckin learnin in they brain, been up and down. one culture may build pyramids while another can't quite figure out farming and dies out.
