i'm going to go totally nuts here, try and follow this train of thought:

guy with political past thinks he is above the law because of his connections, and maybe he's a little drunk or high. he leaves a traffic stop. police over react in typical fashion and shoot the guy (how many links do we see where some random minor infraction results in a shooting or tasing?). media stops reporting on it because...well, what exactly is there to report? how many follow ups do we see in the cases when the cops raid the wrong house and shoot some random home owner in a 'no knock' raid?
