Good read. I guess I never thought about the various 'Black Thought' philosophies having distinct competing historical lineages, though I guess in reality they'd have to.
Black conservatives have been dipping into this well of lost black honor since the turn of the 20th century. On the one hand, vintage black nationalists have harked back to a golden age of black Africa, where mighty empires sprawled and everyone was a king.
That's a favorite idiocyism of mine.
1) All people come from ancestors who arranged their societies into hierarchies. You don't get civilizations without structure. (Roaming bands of nomads in 11,000 BC had leaders. Dogs have leaders. Ants have leaders. Did the African King get three extra grubs on his wood chip at dinner?) Big Fucking Deal. This doesn't make anyone special.
2) If everyone was a king, then everyone was the same, so calling them 'kings' was meaningless. An Indian tribe where everyone's a Chief? Again, Big Fucking Deal. This is a retarded premise and doesn't exactly clothe the entire race in quiet old dignity once you've worked it through.
On the other hand, if silly fantasy talk like that helps avoid such hilariously sad things as the following, then maybe it should be encouraged...
No reporters were allowed, for fear that their presence might frighten off fathers behind on their child-support payments.
That reads like parody.
