I dunno 'bout that. I live near the oilsands in northern Alberta, and the chinese buying all the oil on the spot market have made this area rich as all hell.
Gas is expensive? compared to what? I still say it's a luxury, look at india or malaysia. Tons of people who can't afford gas getting by no problem, just gotta forgoe that HEMI MAGNUM!!!1!! for the shimano 15 speed. We can all get by on bikes and rollerblades and horses and donkeys and stone roads and fire light and.... wait, without things like gasoline we're living centuries behind. I'll pay a damn hell of a lot for gas then.

I remember managing a gas station when I was 20. Prices were 57 cents a litre then, and everyone bitched. At the same time gas was over $2 a litre in the UK and guess what, EVERYONE STILL PAYED! There's a long way to go before we have a problem here, people in my kneck of the woods are still buying thier 7 litre V8's.
