it seems like there have been several links in the last few days about which i really can't form an opinion. on the one hand, keeping it a secret likely makes him and his fellow soldiers 'safer,' as they would be an obvious target. on the other hand, i would usually prefer that something newsworthy is reported.

In this case, it's specifically related to troop movements and carries no significance other than trivial for readers. 'Helmand Province'. Even heard of it? I'm not sure I have and I certainly can't find it on a map.

I'm definitely not in favor of blacking out information but in this case the potential harm seems to far outweigh the benefits to the public for once.

but would they even report on the troop movements if prince harry weren't there? they're only reporting on it because he's a high profile figure -- which is exactly the problem with reporting on it.

i guess my dilemma is that i want everything important to be reported, but should it cost someone their life? or in this case, should it risk the life of one person (and his fellow soldiers by proxy) just because they're famous?

i don't suppose that saying the province in a report was going to end up with him dead, but if it had, would it have been worth it? i'm not sure.

So it boils down to basically celeb news. Seems kind of a ridiculous rationale for even risking the endangerment of anyone's life, much less that of a 'morale asset' like PH, or for providing confirmation that terrorist intel agencies were working as they'd hoped.
