This is the best american episode ive seen, although the almost constant mood music they put over every single second of it makes it slightly annoying. The last part is the best, check out the if-the-cameras-werent-there-Gordon-would-have-pummelled-him-to-death bit near the end of this episode, much better.
I'm not a fan of reality shows, but this series just kicks ass on several levels.
1st level, although GR can be an ass, it is really his personality and appears to be rarely a contrived put-on for the camera. Therefore, no excuses, balls out genuine.
2nd, GR really knows his shit about food, being a chef, and running a restaurant... there is no pretense or show without that underpinning.. so he isn't some marginal talent trying to pretend, he really is that good.
3rd, although these failing restaurants are perfect for the show, he really turns their businesses and lives around. It appears that he truly cares about the industry and the people he is attempting to help... as much as an Englishman can show his emotions. This begs the question of mixed intents, and if his purpose to create a drama diminishes his real, positive effects on these sad-sacks lives. In the end, the results speak for themselves, which as an American is OK with me. Other sensibilities would maybe ignore the results because the methods are so harsh, but that is another debate.
4th, It is just plain entertaining and enlightening to see how some well meaning people wind up running a restaurant.. sometimes they are completely over their heads and doing it for the wrong reason, or they are going about it all wrong. This lesson can be translated to any endeavor, when one must first ask the Why question before moving ahead one space.
5th, GR is truly passionate about his work and profession. He is marginally arogant, but his attitude and energy translates perfectly to the screen and really reveals how one could be in their life. If I ran a network, I would fund this show until I went broke.
The guy has 3 michelin stars, which makes him in the top 3 chefs in the UK, although he is widely regarded as the best. Whats more amazing is that he was a professional footballer too.
I think what makes this show work well is the fact that he's a fucking hardass who isnt afraid of saying anything to anyone.
You should watch the British ones, theyre much better IMO. Oh, and is it true they bleep out all the FUCKS when its shown on US tv??
Yeah, I started watching the Americanized version but have now levelled up to the British episodes on BBC America. So for the first time, braap has made a statement that I actually agree with.
Braap: Everything that might be construed as maybe possibly offensive to someone is bleeped in the US.
The British ones are better because they don't come in and give the restaurant a $50,000 makeover on each episode. The British restaurant owners have to dig themselves out of the hole on their own, instead of being handed a free ticket.
the british ones are better because it's about gordon fucking ramsey, who is the reason the show exists. he's front and center, he spends the time with the people. i feel like when i watch the american show, he's almost a glorified host for a show about rehabbing kitchens, rather than gordon ramsey stomping on fools.
i honestly think that he rarely comes off as an asshole. he's usually just correct and dead honest, and he doesn't put up with excuses.
Hey. You. Yeah, you, anonymous person. If you logged in, you could comment, you know...
This is the first pornsite I've found in years that I'd actually advertise to swarmers. When you first load it up, it looks just like every crappy scam site out there, except that it's real. It's huge, it's updated constantly, there's no spam, no popups, and no bullshit -- and it's completely free. When you sign up through that link above and respond to the confirmation email, I make a bit of loose change.
See what other swarmers have to say about it. People love this place, so I feel fine about sending you there and am confident you will enjoy boners.
