There is nothing wrong with raising the flag of alarm, but just make sure it meets the litmus test. Right now, every business owner possesses the same right to kill, and every citizen has the right to inform on their fellow citizens. Creating an efficient network to do this isn't illegal, but quite wise. The trick is to counter-balance and fight if that network is misused.

i'm not sure it's paranoid or crazy, and i wonder if it's going to take martial law for something like this to happen. we have blackwater in iraq, and they do whatever the fuck they want. we have rent-a-cops here at home, who (if you missed this story a while back) were given, by law, nearly the same abilities as the police. it isn't a huge leap to think that we may end up with some kind of privatized army, and maybe some kind of privatized police force, to a greater or lesser extent.

I would agree to your points nocal, if the opposing force of the courts were in cahoots or compromised, so as not to oppose any abuse of these pseudo-police forces. But to be fair, this is the only way for an intelligence gathering organization to efficiently spread its reach without having even more agents. So, do we not pursue intel gathering or employ the least intrusive and overt method? I prefer this method, of 'deputizing' some yokels that could easily be neutralized due to their lack of training, etc., rather than populate the country with many, many more highly trained intel workers/agents who might not be as easy to control/neutralize if things turned into a police state.
