I find the concept pretty cool, but the stroke pictured here is really short, and I bet the timing would be a bitch.

As pictured the mechanism would not be able to get the crank spinning. You would need a couple more of these lined up. Essentially, the one pictured mechanism would replace a single conventional cylinder.

So, Instead of a four-piston engine, you'd have a 16-piston one-of-these. Off hand that would translate into a lot more friction.

How much hp can it produce?

There have been allot of engines out there with some wild claims, I would say that 2 major issues are ignition timing and the added mass of all that hardware. I see allot of lubrication issues as well. It all looks good till you spin it up to 6k RPM and it eats itself.

I would have to ask this guy how he sees the forces translated into this system and how he determined his 15%-20% savings.

Yeah, and this dude goes on about piston skirts--like they're a sin.

I'd be willing to bet working HP is achieved at high RPM leading to the invevitable self destruct that high speed x small bearing surface (with appurtenant low mass to sink heat into) must equal as solion predicts.

Yet we could all be working from the wrong premise. There's really only one connecting rod to this crankshaft, and it's stroke is long compared to that of each individual 'piston'; maybe that squares the deal off some.
