there's a much better classic study of change blindness.
on a campus, a man walks up to a student and asks for directions. while the student gives directions, a man walks between them carrying a very large door (or something to that effect). when this person walks between them, the person who was asking for directions quickly switches with the guy carrying the door. he then finishes getting directions.
people almost never notice.
