| | | | | | If you've installed an Ubuntu box and haven't almost immediately figured out what Envy is then you must be above 40.
I would be interested to see who of nugleming, witty_screen_name, hobo, bigdinwaunakee, casmhar, wotak actually use Linux...
| | | | | | | I semi-recently transitioned back to Windows for the desktop, after Ubuntu failed to break out of its 'Ubuntu must always suck as much as possible' routine that it likes to do with me.
If I had stayed on Gentoo, I'd still be there now, but you know what?
Fuck Linux on the desktop. [1]
I once was amused by spending hours tinkering with ALSA and X, and recompiling Firefox for static linking but I've got more interesting things to do.
[1] I still use Linux for a lot of desktoppy stuff like IRC and mail [2] though.[3]
[2] Check out sup. It whips the llama's ass-balls. That fourth quote down on the page is from me. :)
[3] I guess I might possibly mean fuck X on the desktop. In any case, fuck it.
| | | | | | | I've got Red Hat on a virtual machine that lives on my XP workstation. I installed it mostly to introduce myself to Linux and I was mainly interested how RAID worked on a Linux box. I have installed Ubuntu on a Dell laptop, but the drivers were a serious pain in the ass. Ultimately, I am looking for the perfect OS for my impending media server. So, no I am not primarily a Linux guy but I am learning it. So, yes. I do know what Envy is and what it does. Seems like a good app to have in hand. | | | |
| | | | | | | i've tried linux, but didnt keep it | | | |
| | | | | | | witty what problems did you have with the dell? (currently running ubuntu on dell lappy) | | | |
| | | | | | | Nice one, dejer. Show me an OS and I'll tell you a personal usage story. .... and I'm over 40. Since I'm too busy, I really won't waste my time. Time really is money when you are hiring people, trying to screen out those who brag about knowing Ubuntu.
PS... they rarely get hired. Talent like Vas usually gets the offer, because they understand that tech knowledge doesn't warrant sociopathic, deity-like attitudes towards others.
Envy is a really nice step forward in the Ubuntu world, but not anything I really envy.

| | | | | | | It was an old piece of shit Dell, I couldn't find the right drivers for the ethernet adapter, the touchpad, or the video. Ubuntu also kept locking up mysteriously even when I wasn't doing anything with the computer (like I could leave my office for the night and it was running - come back in the next morning and it was locked up). This led me to believe that the laptop was a piece o' shit and unworthy of a new OS. Also, admittedly I was doing it as a sideline amongst other projects so I wasn't all that dedicated to making it work. More than anything I just wanted to learn about Linux.
Oh yeah, also I ain't that bright cuz I ain't got no Linux book learning...
The virtual machine on the other hand works like a charm and has allowed me to tinker Linux style to my heart's content.

Ah... successfully tricked another customer...

I bet it was suspending to disk and Ubuntu wasn't set up properly for it, so it'd lock up. Would have worked fine under XP, or if you wanted to finish the suspend-to-disk setup under Ubuntu (or just turn that feature all the fuck off, which is what I do).
| | | | | | | Then once you have the drivers installed,you can play all 4 games that will run on Linux ..... | | | |

Silly me,I forgot about the other 2 games that will work once in a while with wine.
I`m not a Linux hater,it`s just not an OS you would want to use if your an avid gamer. But I guess if you want to tweak your fingers to the bone, knock yourself out.
| | | | | | | Hay yoo guys. I've just found out the hard way that you have to uninstall the NVIDIA driver using Envy before you do a kernel upgrade, otherwise X throws a strop. You can re-install that shit after you boot the new kernel for the first time.
Removing my 'dogs bollocks' award for now, since this experience was like: 'wow! new car!' and then 'wait, 50 quid for a fucking MOT?'.

| Sexual Asspussy | This is awesome.
This is the first pornsite I've found in years that I'd actually advertise to swarmers. When you first load it up, it looks just like every crappy scam site out there, except that it's real. It's huge, it's updated constantly, there's no spam, no popups, and no bullshit -- and it's completely free. When you sign up through that link above and respond to the confirmation email, I make a bit of loose change.
See what other swarmers have to say about it. People love this place, so I feel fine about sending you there and am confident you will enjoy boners.
