The WTC towers collapse was a 'perfect storm' of factors coming together at that moment. One key element was the fact that the towers were among the first constructed using computers in the 1960's/70's. Prior to this engineers had to figure everything the hard way and would often overbuild everything like bridges and early skyscrapers. Why do you think the Empire State building is the safest building in New York? Because its build out of thousands upon thousands of tons of Kentucky limestone and a steel skeleton unlike anything ever built. It'll be there for hundreds of years. Modern skyscrapers aren't built like that. The engineers who built the towers were so jazzed with their IBM's it allowed them to figure the load of the building down to the ounce. If you notice the WTC towers had hollow cores. This allowed them to add more floor space per floor for rent. This also forced the exterior walls to become load bearing walls which is highly unusual for skyscrapers. Most tall buildings have what are known as curtain walls: basically glass curtains to keep the birds out. And while making the exterior walls load bearing did make the towers strong, it made them dependent on them to stand. Without them in place, it had no INTERNAL structure to hold it up. Also, while the engineers did compute for a jet hitting the towers, they never computed the fuel load of thousands of gallons of jet fuel incinerating everything in the building at once. This instantaneous hot fire began warping and weakening all the steel at once, instead of something like an office fire where only a small section of the building would get hot.

wtc 7 had two support columns at the front of the building that were severely damaged, and they were both supporting an unusual amount of weight. besides, the whole 'perfect collapse' thing is just because the only time you have ever seen a building collapse is during a controlled demolition; you don't know what it looks like when a building collapses otherwise. however, watch some controlled demolitions. buildings don't just collapse into themselves usually during those, because they have to stage the explosions. rather, it quickly comes down in what look like sections, starting from one side and progressing to the other. you can find a million examples on youtube, filled with 9-11 commentary from people who clearly have not compared the two.
