so, aside from the fundamental mistakes, this was the right way to go - just not with this president?

mistake one was accepting the WMD 'evidence' wholesale, which, you know, kinda indicates it might not have been the way to go. on the plus side, it does kinda support the 'just not with this president' argument. that is, after you're done strapping the horse in behind the the cart.

mistake two was buying into nonexpert opinion, which the administration didn't exactly correct.

i think the point is that saddam was a doodoo face and who gives a fuck if he was no immediate threat to the united states? he needed to be removed. to a certain extent, i have to agree.

I read recently some comments for the CIA guy that was assigned to Saddam while he was in captivity. Apparently, Saddam felt the need to make the world believe that he had WMDs because he feared another war with Iran more than he feared the US.

I can see the dude's point to an extent. He fucked up by not letting the US in on his little ruse and instead opted for the 'FUCK YOU, JOE' approach.

Personally, I believed that Iraq had chemical and biological weapons. I knew they didn't have nukes. This belief was seated in the fact that Iraq had previously used chemical and biological weapons and the fact that while I was in the Persian Gulf, I had to carry a gas mask and atropine injectors 24/7.
