I actually think the recording industry has a point. To a point. And that point ends at 'fair use', and their disingenuous redefinition of the term.
Certainly some have stretched 'fair use', and that's what the the RIAA is trying to hang their hat on and I say let them try--just let them try without the government assissting them with legislation that makes their litigation more cost effective.
If these fukers want to sue every suspect fair user for the actual value of their product as delivered, let them incur the cost of each suit for each user (large number of small targets) in the manner delivered, rather than make universities (small number of large targets) the gate-keepers of their interests.
