although remarkably well known (as far as psychological studies go), this has had far less of an impact on society than i would like. people still talk as though nazi germany was some bizarre fluke rather than an inherent issue with humanity.
supposedly milgram didn't have a huge career after this and kept doing variations on this experiment. he found that if a person can see the subject, they are less likely to 'go all the way' with the shocks. if the subject has to push the 'subject''s hand down onto a pad that supposedly shocks them, they are less likely still.
