Feeling bad about it only makes sense if you're relying on inaccurate stereotypes and thereby inadvertantly insulting the character of some set of people. If it works, those stereotypes are then demonstrated to be accurate, at least to an extent that makes a difference in law enforcement, and thus... completely sensible.
