LK, Vas: He was kind enough to relate the end of the final book to his wife before he died, so yes, the series will be completed.

Strange that I should see this today... I was just talking about his illness yesterday afternoon. Apparently I was slightly behind the times.

I read he decided -- when he found out he was dying -- that he was going to extend the series massively, thereby forcing his cancer to wait. I guess he changed his mind.

The books were pretty decent, if a little oddly mannered (all that sniffing and dress-adjusting got cartoonish) but I'll probably never finish the series. I read the first couple books in high school 15 years ago, then the LBP and I started in on the series in earnest 3 or 4 years ago, making it to book 8 or 9 or 10. He had my attention until he started going back and doing book 0 and .5 or whatever.

Now, I don't know if I'll bother redoing all 157 books or whatever it is now. Every time I try to recall a plot thread from that series, I end up remembering Song of Ice and Fire instead, which hints at something.

The Aiel were cool though.

I read only the first book of The Wheel of Boring and quit. It reminded me of a copy of Terry Brooks which was a copy of Tolkein. Only WoB was better than Shannara.

I killed this shit in high school, I thought books 1-6 were excellent. Past that it got increasingly more insane, complicated, time-wasting. I can't believe this shit will never be finished. I mean, he had just cleansed saidin and everything and fuck I wasted some time on this.

Bastard - it's worse than King taking what, 15 years to get from book 3 to the end of The Dark Tower series. Jordan at least has an excuse though. I feel the same about the books - they were great in the start and then it got too confusing and plots too intertwined, I think mostly because I was reading them as they came out and the time span was too long. I'm going to get the last one (whenever that is) just for the sake of finishing the damned things and being able to say over and done with, fuck off and burn in Hell Jordan.
