For my money, worrying about the consequences (or lack thereof) for any of the rogues in this gallery is short-term thinking. What matters is the precedent of the Attorney Genereal and the sitting President's former Chief of Staff being questioned at length, like regular mortal citizens.

Nixon resigned, but Watergate proved that the President was theoretically answerable to Congress like anyone else. I expect something similar here.

If I remember correctly, Nixons demise was not the break in at Watergate, but the events leading up to and then the subsequent hiding of evidence afterwards. Anyone who commits a crime in the executive branch should be hauled in and questioned. The hard part is proving criminal acts. It is going toi be difficult if not impossible for these slippery folks to get nailed. They are all lawyers.
