Wow. Not having ever had to utilize AA's methods, I can't directly comment on their effectiveness. What I can say in general, is that it is a system that helps some people, and if a few are reached, then great.

Funny how some believers try to monopolize goodness and effective means to help people. They are just pitiful. Do believers earn merit badges or extra wafers on Sunday for every convert they rack up?

Some interesting points but I dont really see the point...AA helps many people, thats a fact.

I'm reading this and noting in parts that the AA people tend to favor magical thinking -- that is, some of these quotes are the work of a person with his ass up his own head.

Penn & Teller had a good show about AA. Besides it being questionable the actual effectiveness of the program, the biggest problem with the program is that often times judges mandate convicted abusers to use the religious program. Effectively using the governement to force religion on the poeple.

What's wrong with using the government to force religion on the people?
