Yeah, mundhra. I'm not sure why he took time out to sit with the guy if he wasn't going to do anything mediative. Is it possible he knew the starpower effect would be enough to sway the mortal's feeble judgment?
As for why MySpace would do this... the url was myspace.com/barackobama. Had it been www.barackobama.com it might be a little more clear that Obama's identity was being seemingly represented by not-Obama, but as MySpace becomes more and more 'important', there may be a reasonable expectation that it work like domain names -- that is, that the MySpace URLs are an extension of brand.
I can't even point to any one of the three parties and go 'there's the dick', except that 1) I'm pretty sure MySpace did the right thing, and 2) I'm pretty sure Obama could have gone out of his way to hook a whiteboy up, and failed.
Not criminal, but he entirely missed a chance to be gracious to a supporter in a socially sensitive moment fo sho.
