I realize that a 'transport hub' does not necessarily have to have its own large population, but is there a great need for transportation THROUGH Alaska? (This is a serious question; I'm unfamiliar with the demographics of the area.)

breezysummerday is in Alaska. I lived there many years. Alaska already has the structures to link natural gas pipelines from Siberia. Underground pipes take a beating during earthquakes, so I don't know how they would get around that.
