I fully believe in a sensible FDA, one area where I differ from Libertarians.

This is a combination of there not being a comparable body in China combined with probably a lack of FDA oversight of imported food in this case.

All in all, you have to marvel at how safe the food supply is considering how many opportunities there are for debacles such as this.

Also, why shouldn't food be for making a buck off of? Someone has to put their labor into raising it. What, they don't deserve to earn a market wage living at it?

Food markup, like Art, is an atrocious profit margin. Ingesting a delicious feast is beyond monetary renumeration for the preparer.

But if you are talking about McDonalks or Trash co. Hell, I can see that giving you pre-digested loweset-bidder greasy 'food' could be worth something, kinda like gasoline or shoe polish.
