I read an article that went along the lines of the amount of junk up there is in critical mass, whereby a cahin reaction of damage can ensue where all satellites will be destroyed bu objects all colliding with each others debris. Anything in geosynch orbit has to be at the same relative altitude. So if there is an accident or attack, they all get essentially fragged. It would prevent launching more satellites for hundreds of years. Maybe a cool light show though.
