| | | | | | | | | | | | Subjectivity is a concept lost on many... Opinions & a-holes :p
OH SNAP, WE JUST BEEN TOLDED!
| | | | | | | ''There is more to life than increasing its speed.'
Gandhi
Unfortunately , most people in dark stanky places like this want it hard and quick, they don't think they have time for mind expansion. There is some serious irony here though - as it is the asshats that need the information the most.
If you haven't spent more than 5 minutes on a site that wasn't porn in a few years - you will miss the point , for the rest of us - this is a great resource.
| | | | | | | Check out the movies 'Jacob's Ladder' with Tim Robbins
and 'What Dreams May Come' with Robin Williams
For a possible afterlife preview!
Or the Buddhist bardos in the Tibetan Book of the Dead for a more serious look.
OK!
Also, I read the living fuck out of 'Chariots of the Gods?' as a wee lad. I daresay I am now extremely broad of mind. Thanks, alternative viewpoint non-sheeple!
| | | | | | | Thanks for reminding me of Jacob's Ladder , I would also be curious about 'Chariots' but since you already read the living fuck out of it , it might not have much left to give! Why don't we move this post to a meaningful category and let asshats be asshats. | | | |
| | | | | | | There is a lot of 'stuff' linked here, but when I find the Alien abductions explained: UFOs & the Bible in history & in prophecy grouped with Hunter S. Thompson: Where the Buffalo Roam like they were the fucking same subset of information, Asshat is the only thing that applies (to me, an admin, who can easily have his shit changed by another admin if warranted).
I guess if you love this enough, you and your power totem can dick-dock and send a burst of ugly karma my way.
| | | | | | | I have all of the afterlife answers I need. Thanks though. | | | |
| | | | | | | I am not personally into alot of the subject matter related to UFO's or Conspiracy - but I guess there is something appealing to me about having information grouped randomly - we are so conditioned to see it organized , it is refreshing to see the chaos. You might need to explain just how it is that we might activate our power totem - I am not feeling too poweful at the moment! As far as the afterlife - I still find myself afraid of death , but not afraid of fear. | | | |
| | | | | | | Alien abductions explained: UFOs & the Bible in history & in prophecy grouped with Hunter S. Thompson: Where the Buffalo Roam are not in the same subset of info first of all, and just because the docu's are grouped doesn't mean I endorse them, it's information and food for thought no matter how 'out there,' and I don't claim any 'answers,' just food for thought, that's what philosophy is... it can only make you think. You know, that extinct passtime :p | | | |
| | | | | | | I would be a little weary about ' nurgleming' no matter how refined your metaphysical skills may be - That fucker is shooting some high power blue light out of his eyes , so I am guessing he has already mastered all the techniques of dedroidification. Now , he could have been directing all of that pimped out energy at 'LORDKAHUNA' , in which case - we should not be hearing much more about 'asshat' for a week or so. - But there is something going on with these LinkSwarm warriors - if they are rocking out , they may be cocking out - step back. Our totem is no match for laser blue. | | | |
| | | | | | | It's not considering UFOs possible, or looking into pyramid power, or considering orgone energy that strikes me as asshatty. It's the combination of all three, leavened with a thick slice of 'everything else alternative'.
Way too often, these collections of 'broaden your mind with our counter-cultural info orgy' type experiences end up being less about any rigorous exhuming of controversial, buried phenomena, and more about building a big 'nuh-unh!' playground that feels a lot more reactive to conventional science and philosophy than it feels possessed of any particularly worthwhile set of insights on its own.
That is, replacing the modern 7/11 consumerist worldview 'sheeplisms' with a symmetrical chunk of 'dragons may really exist and sleep near ley lines' worldview 'sheeplisms' doesn't seem that much of an improvement to me, and is sadly always less informative in the long run.
Any one or two of these disciplines -- to be a little gracious, since why not -- is worth checking out, but lumped all together in the same book of forbidden knowledge turns it from scientific inquiry (which is difficult) into iconoclastic crank spectacle (which is easy).
Toss in the cheap Hollywood 'WAKE UP YOU ZOMBIES, USE YOUR MOUSE TO CLICK THIS BUTTON FOR MEGA-ENLIGHTENMENT' and I think we've got our man.
| | | | | | | *yawns* :p Interesting how ppl always throw in a few bullshit (dragons are possible? wtf :p) claims that have nothing to do with the stuff they're talking about. Cheap dialectics from someone who can't come up with worthwile criticism or are too lazy/stupid to make their own website.
Besides consider your 'wonderful' comments: UFOs possible? Duh how could an unidentifiable flying object not be? I think you mean aliens... and if you actually read the site instead of glancing for shit to bitch about, my stance is that 'they aren't visiting us' at all... Oops.
And just because a shitload of docus are grouped doesn't mean I endorse all the opinions in those docus geez wtf. Or cause one link is on my site doesn't mean I endorse all their opinions either.
Besides talking about mindless random bullshit... consider your own blog Vasudeva :p Seriously, who are you trying to bore to death with that drivel.
It's a catalyst site, if you wanna go on exhuming be my guest, at least it'll mean less whining over here. Most people today have no clue that the stuff on the site is even 'out there.'
| | | | | | | *farts* Interesting how ppl take one or two lines they can safely address and ignore the bulk of the real argument, which in actuality had little to do with dragons.
Most people today have no clue that the stuff on the site is even 'out there.'
Most cheerleaders and dockworkers, maybe. I think anyone who knows how to read knows about Ghandi and pyramid hats. They may not have boned up on a comprehensive collection of 'RAW' quotes, I'll grant you.
So it's a catalyst site. What are you trying to catalyse? You've catalysed some discussion here, though you're oddly hasty to snuff it out. Were you hoping to blow our fucking minds? That you had finally ripped the false outer skin off life and revealed to us all the true nature of self and existence?
I'll keep clicking the zombie button -- maybe it'll happen yet.
(Not really though.) | | | |
| | | | | | | Maybe these 'Higher Plane' gaywads could garner a little more street cred if they quit using condescending and derisive hooks like 'It's high time you broaden your cute little close-minded reality tunnel.' to get their message out.
If you 'get it', and I don't, what serves a more useful purpose; deriding me because I'm 'too stupid' to 'get it', or showing me how to 'get it?'
I give a shit either way I guess...I'll continue using my tinfoil properly. For wrapping tasty red meat and whatnot.
| | | | | | | My mother has become a complete New-Age nutcase over the years. She has done this mainly I think because she was raised very strictly religious, decided that was full of crap later in life, then even later, apparently decided that believing complete bullshit wasn't such a bad idea after all.
More evidence that religion is essentially child abuse.
Mind you, she misses no opportunity to tell you that believing religious bullshit is stupid, while in the same sentence prattling on about the essential waveform energy of the turnip, and how it cures cancer, only the lizard people overlords won't allow the gubment to tell us about it.
I have no idea why your site made me think of this. Oh wait... it's because I have some modicum of critical thought ability.
clavis: 'I'll continue using my tinfoil properly.'
Me too. Tinfoil + Olive Oil = The best chrome cleaner you can get.
| | | |
| | | | | | | | | | | | I saw this on StumbleUpon, was meh then as well | | | |
| | | | | | | LOL vasudeva, weren't you the one who approved the site? :p
'So it's a catalyst site. What are you trying to catalyse?'
Thought, what you are trying to do is bitch about a site you don't like. What are you trying to catalyse with your blog besides sharing random stupidity the net is rampant with already?
I love the finfoil reference, like there's anything on the site to warrant that stupid comment. There's nothing new age or tinfoil or lizard about it. There's one reference to lizards in a shamanic voyage that completely contradicts the Icke ridiculousness though. Though generalizing what you reject is easy isn't it?
And as for power totems, read a little about Shamanism, I'd like to see you drink some ayahuasca and hear what you have to say after that. Or read a little about archetypes and Jung.
I'm not trying to blow anyone's minds, these are some ideas I like to share. If you don't like 'em you're welcome to stay in your reality tunnel.
| | | | | | | LOL vasudeva, weren't you the one who approved the site? :p
Twas me, I thought that was obvious as well.
PREPARE TOTEM FOR DOCKING!
| | | | | | | Wow ! At least this link generated some intelligent debate along with a few 'asshat' remarks. You can't have too high of expectations for a site whose top link is 'It's my Birthday Fuksticks' - But still it is intruiging to come to this site because you never know what you might find. I like Droid's site for the same reason - There is always something novel to be found .... It is human nature to complain about something before you would compliment it - so 21 comments , but out of 468 reads - most people remain silent - let's say even 1% of them took something valuable to them away from the site ... Nothing like helping 4.68 people. Do you guys think this site :
http://www.secondattention.org
is asshat as well? Because I combine all sorts of ideas on a single page and I don't believe half of them - It is just information. I have been linking to LinkSwarm for quite some time and I can imagine some of my new age visitors are horrified when they click in and discover so much 'ass' per square inch. But I trust they will pick out what they like and leave the rest alone .....
| | | | | | | LOL vasudeva, weren't you the one who approved the site? :p
No, actually. I let it moulder in the main queue for like a week, because I couldn't find the time to figure out if you were fuking serious with that melodramatic 1998 intro MP3 and someone else finally approved it. What would you be proving if accurate? Links get approved for reasons other than personal stamp of BBB good housekeeping. Quite often pointing out the incredible asshat is one of them.
Also, just because the from address in the acceptance email was me, doesn't mean it was actually from my hand. (Open your mind, faggot, it's a big world, whooosh.)
Thought, what you are trying to do is bitch about a site you don't like.
No? I was remarking on the nature of new-age beliefs? Your site got caught in the cross-fire a little, I suppose, as a worthwhile example of same. I wouldn't take it real personally.
What are you trying to catalyse with your blog besides sharing random stupidity the net is rampant with already?
Uhoh, looks like you're taking it real personally.
I thought the first step toward enlightment was releasing yourself from petty ego?
I love the finfoil reference, like there's anything on the site to warrant that stupid comment. There's nothing new age or tinfoil or lizard about it. There's one reference to lizards in a shamanic voyage that completely contradicts the Icke ridiculousness though. Though generalizing what you reject is easy isn't it?
Tinfoil is a one-shot universal reference by which everyone conveniently understands the speaker to be referencing an excessively self-regarding counter-culture chunk of stuff such as you have submitted here. It's like babies crying in the night, though less unwarranted.
And as for power totems, read a little about Shamanism, I'd like to see you drink some ayahuasca and hear what you have to say after that. Or read a little about archetypes and Jung.
How do you know anyone hasn't? You think you've cornered the market on insight and learning?
That is, if you're so at-one with the fuking godhead, why do you have the same threadbare hubris as every other cliche burned-out TV-baby hippie?
What happened to Ghandi's love, man? Don't hide behind the trappings of your wisdom. Come out. Share your heart. Your heart is beautiful. You are beautiful.
| | | | | | | a_b_r_a_x_u_s:
First, a semantic point; Most of what I found listed on your front page would be difficult to classify as 'information'. It's mostly psycho-babble.
Second, I absolutely <3 the fact that your site's motto is 'Think For Yourself', followed immediately by a random quotation which almost invariably attempts to tell me that my thinking is weak and wrong, and that I would in fact be much happier thinking your way instead. Such as this one, for example:
'Recognize that your imagination and your thinking and your sense perception are reed canes that children cut and pretend are horsies. Deny your desires and willfulness, and a real mount may appear under you.'
My rebuttal quotation:
'Famous quotations are most often employed by those who have nothing of their own to say.' - Winston Churchill
Oh, the pathos... says it all, really.
Regardless, in my experience the people who most enjoy these types of 'Think for yourself' things are generally those who, for whatever reason, cannot in fact do so.
At least you are guaranteed a huge and self-perpetuating market.
| | | | | | | 'Open your mind, faggot'
Who's taking what personally now? :p
'My rebuttal quotation'
You needed a quotation did ya? :p
'Regardless, in my experience the people who most enjoy these types of 'Think for yourself' things are generally those who, for whatever reason, cannot in fact do so.'
Right cause thought stimulation is bad for you! Philosophy makes you not think for yourself! lol Why does a little information offend you guys so much anyway that you have to go out of your way to repeatedly cry about it? Is it cause this kind of information hurts your heads so much? Oh no right cause you and everyone except cheerleaders and dockworkers know this stuff already. By all means go find out what crazy Paris is up to now! Or share your own website, I'm sure if you can bitch about other people their work that you have better work of your own to display? What's that? oh.
| | | |
| | | | | | | ^ Typical.
'You needed a quotation did ya? '
It's called satire. Look it up.
Random factoid:
[whoosh] is the sound made by the point as is flies past you undisturbed.
Again. | | | |
| | | | | | | Ooooohhhh Ive got to weigh in on this one.... speaking of which I am very jealous of you deskjockeys getting paid while you post to the 'Swarm, god bless america..... anyhow....
it is quite difficult to make a categorical response on the appropriateness of the 'asshat' tag without digressing on any one of the talking points raised by the swarm. regardless, the asshat tag is appropriate in that it reflects the utter bitterness that dominates this site (and given the state of this country/world, understandably so), most of the comments in the swarm are sarcastic nerd humor that in many cases originate from utter conceit -christ Vas you wrote a small book entreating droid to be humble, how ironic is that, though your lexicon is impressive in its size, mmmmmm, i mean what did i just say???-
the point being here, you all, WE all are narrowminded to some point, because we have an ego that we simply cant get rid of, droid, you should be happy that your site was even accepted here, not that LS' standards are particularly high, but if you really are trying to elevate consciousness here you should be satisfied that your 'message' is being propagated, regardless of the context.
for those of you skeptic comedians in Kahuna's camp, you make me laugh, often, but really, flaming the shit out of everything that isnt the most advanced extension of a silicon wafer prove that you are trapped in your own 'reality tunnel,' but then again, we all are, its just that nobody wants to admit it
| | | | | | | Haha.

I wasn't entreating droid to be humble. I don't give a shit as to his personal state of production, except insofar as he's masturbating to a picture of himself in guru robes but his posts are made of pure beany-baby. (Self-knowledge? Lack thereof, lolfetus.)
And I still don't care about that, really, apart from marvelling at the breadth and width of human silliness while relaxing in my reality tunnel.

| | | | | | | 'I am very jealous of you deskjockeys getting paid while you post to the 'Swarm, god bless america'
The only reason I'm even in this stinking office at all today is because I'm waiting for the Qwest guy to show up and drop an NPLS circuit. I'm beginning to suspect he ain't gonna show. He didn't yesterday either. God Bless America™, indeed. I shan't be here much longer.
As to the rest of your post, I take your point, but I also take exception.
I flame these sites not at all because they are not the greatest, but because sites such as these which purport to 'enlightenment' and 'thought stimulation' by offering meaningless snippets of non-science and Belief masquerading as 'philosphy' should be stamped out of existence on the basic (and demonstrable) premise that they contribute to, rather than inhibit the growth of weak-minded fops who are incapable of taking a realistic view of the universe surrounding them, and who are thereby increasingly vocal in their assertions that their sloppy thinking and misguided bumper-sticker mentalities can and should be thought of reasonable and intelligent.
It ain't.
See, the main problem with philosphy is that it has, at last count, spent the last 40 or so thousand years answering exactly zero important questions. It does, however excel at propagating its own sponge-minded ideal of society, which it does, ironically, by purporting to be against said ideal.
Religion and Philosophy are very close cousins. The willing suspension of one's faculties and control to another on the premise that they know better. It's Belief. Big B Belief.
Belief is a disease. Get over it.
| | | | | | | 'belief is a disease,' in that we all are infected by it? or that in the interests of being healthy we should avoid it? do you believe that 'belief is a disease' is true? are you a nihilist? given your final statement you almost must be, which is okay, nihilism is about as unassailable as it gets, if a bit paradoxical, much like your final statement.... anyhow....
Vas, if you werent asking for humility your digital beatdown of droid definitely served as lesson for such;
so are you all giving the asshat tag for dedroidification's (read abraxas, droid) perceived selfrighteousness and pretension? because yes i definitely was annoyed by having to hit 'dedroidify' just to see the videos (beings that im just too dense to have noticed the shortcut) and having to read a bunch of tired nietzsche (fascism = enlightenment?, yes asshat) and plagiarized wikipedia.
Or, are you awarding asshat status due to the content? I hope not; despite the fact that there is a fair share of nonsense, there is a wealth of material within the site that is indeed worth investigation - Terrence McKenna, RAW, to name a few.
| | | | | | | I threaten to visit the site posted, and then return here to comment.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!
| | | | | | |
THIS IS YOU | | | |
| | | | | | | A Dobbsian hopeful with so little slack that the circulation to dedroidify's rational capacity has been cut off--as well as his sense of humor.
| | | |
| | | | | | | ''belief is a disease,' in that we all are infected by it? or that in the interests of being healthy we should avoid it?'
Yes. Although I make the (perhaps somewhat petty, I know) distinction between big B and little b. This distinction came about as a result of lengthy (read: years) discussion of this very topic in another group I frequent, and is defined loosely by the following two examples:
A) I Believe (big b) that the flying spaghetti monster has touched me with his noodley appendage and that when I die, I will become a sacred pirate midget in his service forever.
B) I believe (little b) it to be about 5:30 pm.
The main distinction lies in the fact that A ultimately poses an unanswerable (and therefore useless) question - what happens after I die- but nevertheless proceeds to assert an answer as fact anyway, while B is typically a loose figure of speech, or a statement of factual expectation (correctly or not) .
I attempt to avoid the loose usage of the little b example in my own speech as much as possible, as I find it much more accurate to say 'I think' or 'I expect'.
As for the big b usage... Hmm... where to begin?
I think that the ability for the human mind to simultaneously hold mutually contradictory ideas without exploding began as an evolved survival trait, and probably emerged as a result of inductive reasoning.
Item: Blorg went to the waterhole when the sun was high.
Item: Blorg got ate by tigers.
conclusion: Don't go the waterhole when the sun is high.
The trouble with inductive reasoning is of course obvious (Suzy is blonde. Suzy has a lisp. ==> All blondes have lisps.), but nevertheless may well have been useful in evolutionary terms. As the ability itself evolved however, it gave rise to memes, and this is where the problems begin.
The ability of ideas themselves to behave (for lack of a better word) as viral agents propagating themselves without regard to the welfare of their host gives rise (I think) to most human advances (and possibly even consciousness itself, a discussion for elsewhere), but also allows the retention and propagation of ideas which are a) clearly not true and/or b) harmful to the host.
Which brings us to big b Belief: This particular auto-toxic memeplex comes in all shapes and sizes. From the fairly innocuous 'all things happen for a reason' to the cause of millions ('Jews have horns growing out of their heads') or countless Billions ('My god has a bigger dick than your god') of deaths. The entire scale, yes... the ENTIRE scale of these types of memes fall into the auto-toxic camp for me, because even the most innocuous-seeming among them still serve (again, by propagating themselves without regard to the welfare of the host) to stifle critical thought and learning, and therefore growth as a species.
Whenever I uncover a Belief in my own brain (and there have been many, and undoubtedly still are), I do my best to expunge it entirely. The willing suspension of reality to suite the whims of my ancestors is not something I am particularly interested in.
And so I say yes, Belief is a disease, and just as Iron and vitamin D deficiencies allowed our ancestors to survive the bubonic plague, this particular disease was perhaps at one time useful.
That time has passed. | | | |
| | | | | | | i think we may be approaching record status as far as swarmage comments go;
my apologies for missing your syntax, though subconsciously i probably missed it to suit my own arguments, anyhow, well it would seem from the outset that Dawkins would be proud (or at least satisfied that his ideas have another host) however i do have questions:
How does the unanswerability of a question render it useless?
Lastly, do you 'think' that all belief is a disease or do you 'Believe' that all Belief is a disease. I think the aforementioned paradox is blatantly obvious at this point.
| | | | | | | Once again i make a syntax error:
Do you 'think/believe' that all Belief is a disease or do you 'Believe' that all Belief is a disease?
| | | | | | |
I would be a little weary about ' nurgleming' no matter how refined your metaphysical skills may be
are your weary, or wary of me, cos people tire of my presence in milliseconds, yet never suspect me.
| | | |
| | | | | | | I am going to post the last comment on this thread! | | | |
| | | | | | | Actually this is pretty much what I believe and the idea that a random quote is trying to convince someone to think 'my' way is not very stable - all of the quotes and articles have different messages - so even if your goal was to blindly follow the dogma of the site - what would that look like?
This dialogue has presented some interesting viewpoints .... one of which is a paradox that has bothered me at times - that seems to be that the more information made available to people , the less time they spend trying to integrate it. As attention spans decline, sites like mine could possibly be contributing to the analog to digital conversion of our minds .... certainly not my goal or intention. Someone thought it was funny , but I made the TItle 'Think for yourself' after Leary's quote , the next line being 'Question Authority' - and I absolutely want someone to question anything that is presented on the site - That is the whole point .... Think for yourself
| | | | | | | sugarslim: so are you all giving the asshat tag for dedroidification's perceived selfrighteousness and pretension? Or, are you awarding asshat status due to the content?
I would say intent.
nurgleming: are your weary, or wary of me,
Glad someone else caught that. I was going to have to chide you all to get out of your phonics tunnel.
sugarslim: i think we may be approaching record status as far as swarmage comments go
The record for link comments is 169.
| | | | | | | 'The record for link comments is 169'
You shouldn't have said that , it could lead to an unconscious or other desire to propogate more comments simply for the satisfaction of setting a record.
P.S. Why do the 'faggots' here like to say 'faggot' so much? Just curious - It is not a word you see often any more in discussions.
| | | | | | | ohnoes!
| | | |
| | | | | | | 'How does the unanswerability of a question render it useless?'
Well, how is endless navel-gazing about a question whose answer is unattainable in any way useful?
Rather than waste enormous amounts of energy and creativity mentally masturbating about something that cannot be known, I take a more basic position. For example,
Is there life after death? Seriously doubt it, but ultimately can't possibly know. Therefore, don't care. End of discussion. Now, let's get back to designing the perfect power supply (or whatever).
'Lastly, do you 'think' that all belief is a disease or do you 'Believe' that all Belief is a disease. I think the aforementioned paradox is blatantly obvious at this point.'
I absolutely think that Belief is a disease. No paradox whatsoever. See, I tend to apply the scientific method wherever possible, and so my worldview is based on the current evidence that is available to me. My view of the world has changed dramatically over the years, and undoubtedly will again in ways that I cannot predict. The key here is that what has allowed my view of the world to change and grow is the simple fact that I have refused to subscribe to any specific Beliefs about it. Therefore, as new knowledge is acquired, my views will hopefully incorporate that knowledge and alter accordingly. Whereas, if I Believed that the world was only 6 thousand years old and flat (for example), no amount of evidence would be able to convince me otherwise. My worldview would never change, would never grow, and would be forever stagnant. Which means that my mind would be equally stagnant, and would eventually atrophy. Sounds like a disease to me...
| | | |
| | | | | | | How does one determine whether a question is unanswerable? Is such a determination dependent on the means available? Were there questions in the past that were deemed unanswerable and have since been answered? Speaking of which, a 'perfect power supply' is one such question beings that modern physics/thermodynamics rule out such a process (entropy). This is all auxiliary to the real issue though;
The paradox is that there is no way to say whether or not something poses an 'unanswerable' question (and thus presents the basis for a Belief). There is simply no way to 'prove' or 'know' anything absolutely, there is always a degree of uncertainty as any child can demonstrate by continuing to ask 'why?' or 'how?' or you can ask Heisenberg, regardless there is no way of saying anything is unanswerable, unless of course you Believe it to be so, and thus we have our contradiction.
This is quite entertaining though.
| | | | | | | sugarslim:
How does one determine whether a question is unanswerable? Logic. Provided you are looking for meaningful answers, a rigorous and ingenuous application of logic will determine if a question is unanswerable. Some questions have meaningless premises. Example: What does yellow smell like? It is a question; technically the 'answer' is 'teen spirit', but you have to throw out the notion of meaning to come to it.
sugarslim:
Were there questions in the past that were deemed unanswerable and have since been answered? Not for sensible people; for the superstitious, the stupid, the lazy and the power seeking superstition sellers, yes.
sugarslim:
There is simply no way to 'prove' or 'know' anything absolutely, there is always a degree of uncertainty as any child can demonstrate by continuing to ask 'why?' or 'how?' or you can ask Heisenberg, regardless there is no way of saying anything is unanswerable, unless of course you Believe it to be so, and thus we have our contradiction.
Nonsense. Check your math.
| | | | | | | Regarding unanswerable questions maybe I should have added the caveat 'meaningful,' and thus you might have been prevented from the continued use of straw men, illogical ones at that (meaningless questions do not usually form the premise of Beliefs).
Regarding past questions that were deemed 'unanswerable,' you completely dodged that one; basically every field of science was once dominated questions deemed unanswerable (what is the moon made of? does the earth rotate around the sun?) by both members of science and the clergy. For example, many physicists believe that a TOE will never be found, but of course they must be idiots.
As for whether or not anything is absolutely provable that is the fundamental difference between western and eastern thought, not that it makes any difference but maybe a better way of putting it is whatever you think you can prove at one point or another you are relying on your senses, your human abilities which are indeed imperfect. The linguistics of your statement, 'I absolutely think that Belief is a disease,' is an example of this, the usage of the word think represents some degree of uncertainty, unless of course you regard your own powers of thought as infallible.
BTW, the math does check out, since you wouldnt explain it, i will; Heisenberg's uncertainty principle states that we cannot simultaneously know both the position and velocity of an electron, yes the uncertainty of such a measurement does have quantitative limits, but the last time I checked Heisenberg was one the larger obstacles in the unification of physics, which until we have such, we will not have a conclusive, continuous view of what this reality is.
At this point Im quitting, you can have the last word.
| | | | | | | | | | | | a single substantial comment and loki wins?
i am outraged (uproar'd).
| | | | | | | I think most of sugarslim's response is to sidechain. It still makes me want to post 'faggot' though cause a nig ain't gotta go out like dat.
Friends don't let friends be like re-droid.
| | | | | | | I think people with intelligent things to say realize fairly quickly when they are talking to closed minded ego addicts and they pull out as not to waste their seed in bad soil. | | | |
| | | | | | | i'm sure i'm gonna run out soon, but

actually i'm not | | | |
| | | | | | | Haha. I think people with intellectually guilty consciences resort to a number of very standard defense mechanisms when their favorite notions are being challenged, all of these mechanisms being fairly transparent. I'm speaking of your post there and every post so far by redroidify, and not really sugarslim, who I know has better in him.
Chief among these defense mechanisms, for the gawker in you...
A) 'You guys just aren't smart enough to understand my brilliant ideas.'
B) 'You guys are too close-minded to get hip to my awesome sauce.' [1]
That's often the alley. For the oop, try on one of these delectable pre-wrapped parting shots, deliverable at any time post-bitterness injection...
C) 'This place sucks and you're all cruel baloneyfarts.'
D) 'Gosh, it's really sad to see such narrow-minded people in life and I seriously pity you from on high.'
***YOU HAVE CHOSEN OPTION B FOR YOUR DEFENSE MECHANISM.
***PLEASE CHOOSE A PARTING SHOT FROM THE LIST PROVIDED:
[1] Redroid's verbiage on his website, incidentally, pre-emptively sets up option B before anyone's even had a chance to question it. This leads me to think he's used to getting shit on, which makes me wonder why he's not any better at defending his coolsuit.
| | | | | | | I'm sad to see this thread become a philosopher's rap-battle. However, I need to add my .02.
I have to file most of this under NOC primarily because I see both sides (sheep vs. free-thinkers) as nothing more than suffering fools for equally pointless causes. Do you ever see a free-thinker happy and keeping to himself with his insightful philosophy? Conversely, do you ever see the sheep happy and keeping to himself with his tunneled reality? NO! Both of these factions spend their time crafting hollow literature which is then thrown in the face of the other side.
And why do they do this (both sides)? I see it some form of high-level mob mentality - that is to say that if you've reached a fork in the road of insight, it feels a lot better to choose your path when you've got some like-minded people backing you up. It's the fear of being alone and ostracized with your ideas that makes you want to insult other's Beliefs in an effort to convert them to your side.
Truly, conspiracy theorists, existentialists, and stoner philosophers are no better than the eagletear'd, 'close minded' religious nuts they war against. Both are tortured souls. If you can convince yourself something is true, it is, right? Wouldn't you rather just be happy with yourself and leave it at that?
| | | | | | | Your treatise, though fair-minded, ignores the lure of witnessing, and the vanity of humans.
Without proselytizing, there is no senior prom. Without senior prom, how is Dimestore Hipster going to show off his majestic prom dress? He spent lifetimes putting it together and is just dying for you to notice... and, perhaps, to share reality tunnels tonight if you play your cards right.
| | | | | | | vasudeva , Do you think my assumption that people are turned off by the black and white nature of any debate that one engages in here was a defense mechanism? I haven't even taken a shot yet , I was simply commenting on why someone might choose not to spend their valuable time continuing a dialog that is not at all give and take - When you distill it down to a 4 yr old level 'I am right and these are my toys' - why bother. But there have been some very interesting observations (and some novel images) on this thread and so it may be worth my time to actually prepare my opening shot ..... I will give you all a chance to prepare for it , as it will most certainly be based on the fact that the most cult-like belief system that seems to be embraced here is Science - If we are going to recognize belief as a disease , which is not a bad start , why do we hold science up above that circle of 'other' beliefs?
You might want to package up some more of those lovely parting shots because I won't be using any of the ones you listed.
| | | | | | | | | | | | doesn't the notion of faith lie outside logic and hard penises. | | | |
| | | | | | | omg, its like fight night, super bowl, mexican wrastling and lawn bowls all at once, i cant wait to see the opening shot, and just for that more than 1 image in a reply!
| | | |
| | | | | | | Respect for science and the scientific method is qualitatively different from faith and spiritual beliefs. That is, they're absolutely dissimilar, despite the fact that you may hear the word 'belief' used loosely in reference to either. You'd be basing your argument on a trick of language. Sophistry.
In any event, we've had that debate before, about two months ago. What's your Plan B?
| | | | | | | I see - so you would like to dodge my opening shot by trying to re-direct me to a plan B which of course I do not have - I thought you encouraged open discussion - It is quite arrogant to assume that you know ahead of time what my argument is going to be. This is one of your hottest topics as is evident from the number of people willing to keep returning to comment and visit the site - If you are not interested in the debate - you could either A.) Stop coming back to look at this thread , or B.) Get over it - You injected plenty of spicy comments to spark the debate in the first place - so don't start whining about it now that it is about to catch fire. | | | |
| | | | | | | Dodge? I've been entertaining retards in this thread for days now. What's to dodge? I get the impression you imagine you've got some fucking mind-bomb just waiting to drop on us. Given your pal doubledroid's clarity of purpose, it seems like a safe guess.
I'm certainly not going to stop you from commenting, though if your thrust is -- as promised by yourself in detail two posts ago -- that believing in science is inherently as blind as believing in god, you'll be A) repeating B) idiocy.
Be my guest, though. I'm interested to see what you say, not so much because of the way you've promised your mentos are going to really be the freshmaker as much as the way in which your comments have teetered from remote chinstroking with a hint of wry (which was nice, if occasionally off the mark) to sort of shotgun retard (which is disappointing, but perhaps closer to the core of the matter). For example, there's basically nothing in your latest post that is both accurate and relevant -- the bits that are one aren't the other.
But by all means, come out shootin', tex.
| | | | | | | You might want to read the previous post as I said nothing about believing in any god. Nice line about the mentos ...
Why do you find yourself disappointed if you interpret my comments as being 'Shotgun Retard'?
And yes , I would interpet this line of yours :
'In any event, we've had that debate before, about two months ago. What's your Plan B?' - To mean , let it go - and if you really believe that you are entertaining 'retards' that doesn't say much for any respect you may have for your own time -
I am not going to aim my mentos power at anyone in particular so don't get too excited - I am patient - so if necessary , we will weed out a few more asshats as needed so that a productive debate about the nature of belief and it's relationship to human experience can unfold.
| | | |
| | | | | | | | | | | | Why don't YOU get the fuck out. Not everything is about instant gratification - If you had taken the time to think a little more about what you said on some of the previous comments - we could have already been having a productive conversation -
Why do you continue to mix intelligent observation with the most arrogant and cheapest shots you can think of. I am not taking this personally by the way , I would like to entertain the idea that people might stop being pricks for more than a few hours so that we can exchange meaningful ideas about the topic. You don't need to babysit - if you are done adding value to the conversation , I am sure you have enough science worshipping cronies here to back you up no matter what i say.
Do you feel threatned by new ideas? Maybe you should practice censorship....(aha! There is an idea .... but you don't like it do you!)
Go ahead if you want to play a power trip - erase me, it will save me hours of probably wasted time trying to communicate with a group of people whose minds are not as much closed as they are full - I am not worried, if they keep eating a daily dose of shit that makes up half the content on your site - they will be purging naturally.
As for my 'mind bomb' I will drop it when I feel it will have the most value.

| | | | | | | a_b_r_a_x_u_s,
Stop. You are starting to suck, no wait; you do. This is a classic dilemma,. Agree to disagree. You bring good shit to discuss, sometimes you gotta just walk away. No one w |
