I call bullshit - this is a hype article, similar to other ones in the news circuit, claiming that Bush's admission to a comparison between the Vietnam War's Tet offensive (where it was said enemy efforts were enboldened in the time leading up to US elections) is an admission of defeat.

Au contraire: Bush & Co. continue their blatant propaganda campaign, in both speech and action. Fortunately, the reports of a possible Dem takeover of the House are not as fanciful.

Yeah, where is this consession? I have read or seen the president saying anything even remotely hinting towards Iraq being a bad idea or that we're 'losing'.

Iraq invasion was an act whose time had come, just like there are some errors when seen through a retrospectoscope seem inevitable.

Well Sorbitol, most of the world sees the destruction of the world policing America as inevitable. Let us hope they are wrong.

Well shitbox, the world is evolving for the better, believe it or not.

It took 58,000 US armed forces killed in vietnam over 8 years (and about 1,000,000 'others' from both sides) to make the US sick of the war. Also I keep hearing Bush tell the world that he (and the whole of the USA)cares deeply for the Iraqi's- (since when?) Why doesn't he conduct a poll-I think that Americans couldn't care less about them.
According to some figures more than 500,000 Iraqi's have already been liberated from thier lives by the war on terror, so I figure on that we are about half way through the war- America, due to technology will keep the liberators toll under 6000 (perhaps one tenth of Vietnam) before declaring 'mission accomplished II' .

Evolving doesn't mean better. Beyond that issue of semantics, the world cannot evolve. I wrote like a bazillion pages about that on this very website once upon a time.

There were errors seen by forward looking people before the invasion, not the least of which were the generals who advised more troops to secure the peace.

It is one of hte bigger mistakes everybody has made to assume more troops would make Iraq safer. Most people think the US troops are a policing force, keeping the Shiites and the Sunnis from slaughtering each other. This is wrong, it is the US troops who are killing more Shiites and Sunnis than any other. More US troops would mean more death.

Point taken. It was a small example that I hoped saccharine or whoever could agree with, not attacking the legitimacy of the invasion itself. There were massive mistakes before and after, all apparent at the time. For example: Before - there was no solid WMD evidence and the tying of Iraq to 9/11 was clearly bullshit. After - not securing the conventional weapons stockpiles and instead focusing on targets such as the oil ministry was not only stupid, but telling.

Well, if Bush stops living in denial about this, image all the other things that might crush his child like spirit.
