Anyhoo, this is exactly what happened to my husband a year ago, Army Reserves. And wrecker is right, the last thing the military wants is a draft. They - and me personally I have to say - prefer trained professionals on the frontlines rather than Joe Q. Linkswarmer (just an example) forced into it crying and scared and confused. And I'm sorry to tell you that being gay doesn't make you safe anymore. These days they could make you prove it by bending a guy over and ramming him and then afterwards they'd say 'haha! That was funny, being gay makes no difference anymore but I just made you have sex with a dude for no reason! Welcome to Hell. '
Being old doesn't save you either. Vietnam vets have been recalled before these marines, why the EFF wasn't that big news when it started happening like 2 years ago?

When you enlist, you have an eight year obligation regardless of the actual enlistment term. So let's say you sign up for 4 years, and after that you get out. You must then make the choice to fulfill your obligation in 'Ready Reserve' (meaning that you actively drill) or 'Inactive Ready Reserve' (meaning the you don't actively drill but you can be called up if needed.)
