This is Mac's underhanded way of breaking into that other 95% of the market share.

What's underhanded about it? They announced last year that they were switching to Intel chips. You'd have to be dull to not think that the next step would be interoperability. It does seem counterintuitive to use XP on a Mac, since it's a real cesspool of all things bad. However if you use OS X to surf the web, but can use XP offline, it could be a match made in heaven. Boot Camp won't be at full speed until the next OS upgrade from Apple, this is, after all, just a beta release. It will be interesting to watch this one. Could be good, could be really bad.

Are you seriously asking why they wouldn't do this?

1. People who are tied down to a Windows-only app, whether for work or otherwise. This breaks into that market.
2. Gamers. Many people want Windows so they can play Windows games. This breaks into that market,
3. On the fence switchers. Many first time switchers are a little apprehensive of switching to a completely new OS. This allows them to switch while still keeping the comfort of having the OS they're used to. They can slowly transition while still having Windows to feel comfortable.
4. Side by side comparison. OSX looks and feels much more modern than XP. If you have both on the same computer, Apple thinks you'll realize that OSX is the better OS as you compare the two on the same computer.

This is a brilliant punch right to Microsoft's nuts. I almost bought a Mac last year intead of the Inspiron 9300 I ended up with. This seals the deal for me and my next computer will definitely be an Apple.
