Cool link- thanks Lownotes- I grew up very near an Air Museum (Hendon England) and spent much time there wondering what it must have been like to fly these things with the reality of a fight to the death at any moment. I think the pilots would have felt invincible once in the seat- not the reality however. Was recently at an airshow in Melbourne Victoria- had an A6m (zero) flying around- quite a rare sight.
Yeah, my Dad turned me into an airplane geek growing up. He was in the Air Force in Vietnam, so there were a lot of airplane books on our bookshelf and model airplanes about. We often went to airshows too. For some reason, I always liked the WWII-era fighters more than F-14s and their ilk.
