Military life is hard enough on the female members without having to put up and deal with shit like that. They signed up to serve, not be friggin raped and assaulted.

Honestly, I am glad that when I served, females were not allowed on combatant ships, because I can completely see this type of stuff happening (And NO I do not now, nor did I ever, condone this type of activity).

Totally not bullshit. 'Heavily armed women' would be sent to jail/electric chair if they would shoot at soldiers, even when trying to defend themselves against rape. It's tricky business, proving that they were 'about to' get raped, that the persons attempting rape were, in fact, soldiers that got shot. Besides, if six men are holding a woman while one is raping, there's not much she can do to even pull out the gun. Also, these men could also have been armed, and threatened that the woman's body would be found outside the city in the desert with no leads or evidence if she did not comply.

The whole premise of the story is that a group of women will not drink because there is no concievable way to relieve themselves safely. This story smells like feet.

We had a group of Naval Academy MIdshipmen deploy with us on one of our short Carribean cruises. In the group were these two hawt female 3rd years.

A - Why didn't they just pee in a can?
B - Its cold in the desert at night. Even in the hottest regions. So no one would die of dehydration over night. Its just not hot enough at night to make a person sweat out all the liquids they need to survive in one night. Doesn't take days to die from dehydration anyway? I dunno I lived in Saudi Arabia for ten years and this just sounds fishy from what I know of living in the desert.
C - Why did't they just pee in a can?
D - From personal experience, if you pee in the desert sand it dries up pretty darn quickly. And an army gal would find a way. They ain't no dummies.
E - What'd they do to avoid having to shit? Not eat 14hr before sundown?

Even in Grenada in 1983, we had several events after landing. The troops were really worked up before landing (we hadn't had a real war for years, and to get to finally engage was a fine and chaotic thrill). The ground force snapped up our perimeter quickly, and for the next four days, we had a lot of government issued meth and weapons, along with orders to destroy the enemy infrastructure. A lot of the guys took that to mean that civilians were fair game, and a lot of houses, cars, and livestock fell to target practice. And, during those days, I heard of at least two of our own female troops and a half dozen civies that got poked. Although some of our troops stayed through December (from late October), nothing was like that first 72 hours of adrenaline and anarchy, where anything goes, murder is sanctioned, and animal brutality is accepted. Just like a dog pack or a school of sharks, it does not matter if you are part of the group when you show weakness in those conditions; they will turn on you.

Do you think that the armed forces are approximately 50% women? Do you think that women in the military hold 50% of the power? It's worse in the military because there are less women, and those women hold less power. They can be forced into a sexual relationship by a man who can have them demoted, punished, or put into dangerous situations. Plus, a sexual relationship between two people who might have to fight together is significantly more dangerous.

Another factor: civilian life is significantly less controlled than military life.

You don't get court-martialled for not showing up to work at your civilian job.

You don't experience pressure from your boss and your boss' boss and some dude with stars on him when contemplating whether to sue some dude who raped you, if you're a civilian.

Sure, I could be wrong. If someone has numbers/data then share it. Until then, having some u nderstanding of the structure of the military, I think that even with the disproportionate number of women-to-men in theatre it is very possible that the incidence of rape is probably no greater than in civilian life.

If I am wrong then we should sack all of the higher-ups.
