This is not the first time our state has attempted this. It is true we often have to prove ourselves as intelluctual equals when travelling or whatever if for some reason someone asks where we are from. But, since most of my friends and people in my generation have no Southern accents (or well-flattened accents), it doesn't come up often.

Still, I have a bagillion horror stories about growing up in the South.

1. State name used in title of a movie depicting historical events,
i.e. 'Mississippi Burning'
2. Dumbass politician Trent Lott and his views on segregation while in
college. I'm sure his views have changed.
