I'm no wirehead, but I know more about networks than your average bear. Still, this is all fuked up, and very confusing.
It was recently announced that the University of Scranton here in northeast PA will be a regional hub for Internet 2, a high-speed network intended for use by universities and research labs. Sounds great, but probably has no practical application for me.
Plus you've got all this talk about the similarly-named Web 2.0, which when you look closely, actually sounds more like a philosphical discussion than the next step in internet technology.
It's an obvious downside of internet decentralization--no one is coordinating efforts, thus leading to duplicative, contradictory or misleading messages.
