People who have less than the intelligence of the average 13 year old do not comprehend death. They don't understand that people die and never come back.

Nocal, maybe I'm a unique butterfly, but I certainly have comprehended the concept of death for QUITE SOME TIME. Certainly as far back as I can remember and definitely before the age of 13.

Dude, you are so overestimating the average high schooler. From what I remember, most of them are borderline retarded. And there are other unbelievable principles, like children under 6 don't understand conservation (the same amount of something in a different shape is still the same amount). It seems to me that most of the 'stages of childhood' psychology has been compiled since the initiation of childhood as we know it a couple centuries ago (I think the Victorian Era is usually pegged as the beginning in the west). Would you care to comment on the validity of these theories of development for children brought up in traumatic circumstance which require 'growing up quickly.' For example, child soldiers, sexually abused youngsters, etc. I would think that children who grew up in an environment that is less insulating than the average child would advance through these stages more quickly (and differently, i.e. in a way that we would likely see as dysfunctional).
