| | | | | | i don't think any IT manager would evar approve Sun HW in a biz for a new purchase or replacement.
Really short of breath, Way too close to death
| | | | | | | Yeah, but imagine what could have been if Sun had an imagination...
They ain't DED yet but they should be.
I have an old SG Octane workstation rotting away in my closet...
They're as good as DED too.
Now do you see why Mac is limping away from proprietary hardware?
Jobs does. | | | |
| | | | | | | Sun is a long, long way from dead. Their only real competition for the heavy hardware any more is IBM (which has even more issues). One prominent bank I know of has more than 15,000 Sun servers, and is still adding hundreds weekly. Sun offers an assortment of processors these days each with special applications in mind - AMD for number crunching, UIII-i for short transactions and UIV for deep processing. The next generations of Solaris (after 10) promise to be remarkably advanced, and fully Linux (if there ever is a standard) compliant as well.

one more time....with feeling....try to emote more.
| | | | | | | And tell me the name of the bank
I feel a transfer comin soon if the answer matches my bank.
| | | | | | | We still use 6 Octanes in our robot lab at work, reliable as fuk.
They eat Silicon Graphics workstations for breakfast.
| | | | | | | Not can I argue master...
This is why mine SG rots.
But $ for % Sun isn't even close.
Gimme moar blade.
Please do not cut off my sex organ.
Unless you promise to love me forever.
Fag. | | | |
| | | | | | | Hey wait.. fag.
Octanes ARE Silicon Graphics Workstations...
You're just trying to butter up to my cock arent you?

| | | | | | | Hey LK,
I am not saying Sun is junk, I have a Sparc laying around here somewhere that served me well for years running Solaris (self dating statement, move on children).
I tried out an SGI Onyx server for a cad rendering machine, nice. Unbelievable Graphics, drive access was slow for the heavy money she commanded, that blew it for me. (SCSI RAID controller was crap), but the graphics, rendering engine, BitBLT engine and video coprocessors were fukin amazing. She was running four processors at entry level!
I just thought it was funny that the Sun Marketing Folks went after server arrays (hopefully) knowing no IT guy would risk his just to be outsourced job on the stuff. There are more stable companies to buy competative HW from that are 'safer' to get capital approval for.
| | | | | | | I just walked through the CSC data center in Norwich CT this weekend. Tons of Suns.
I have a Sparc II on top of my fridge. I love it. It's so slow to draw to the screen that it's faster over the network through an SSH session.
| | | | | | | I was in a Savvis data center in Irvine, CA a few months back. Washington Mutual had a least 6 dozen racks full of Sun equipment. | | | |

Hey. You. Yeah, you, anonymous person. If you logged in, you could comment, you know...

| Sexual Asspussy | This is awesome.
This is the first pornsite I've found in years that I'd actually advertise to swarmers. When you first load it up, it looks just like every crappy scam site out there, except that it's real. It's huge, it's updated constantly, there's no spam, no popups, and no bullshit -- and it's completely free. When you sign up through that link above and respond to the confirmation email, I make a bit of loose change.
See what other swarmers have to say about it. People love this place, so I feel fine about sending you there and am confident you will enjoy boners.
