| | | | | | | | | | | | Two of the best films I've found for atomic blasts are as follows.
The first is a compiliation of tests including space tests at the end, and the series of desert tests from the early 60's that I remember feeling the rumble from and seeing the most beautiful bluish-purple & green sunRISES from. Some of the things to notice are the Tango & Bulldog tests where those poor fuckers are wandering around in their army suits right under the mushroom cloud, and the way in Bikini when they set off the H-Bomb (the island shots, once they bombs got really big, they had to move out of Nevada) the way the 3/8' hardened steel pressure tank ripples like a rubber sheet and the two inch bulkheads of the battle cruisers simple buckles like tinfoil. Yes that is a 150 foot tall wall of boiling water coming at them.
The second is an underground test, and is remarkable not only for it's wonderful coverage of the shockwave as it travels not only through the solid eaarth, but the surface lakes as well. As you watch the trailers and the test equipment bounce up and down four to six feet in the air, you need to remember that its all in slow motion and that if you were standing on that ground, or inside a building there, you would be liquified post haste.
