Right at the start of GW's second term I wondered the same. 'Republicans' (big R) today aren't for what republicans stand for. They're basically Republicrats.

I think the two parties may now work together for the 'greater good', that definition which is to fed modern society by the ruling class. Our gubernmennt is not our own, it is simply a statistical judgment of a group driven by power, little swayed by any loss other than monetary and incredibly filmable.

You know we talk alot. Americans who have brains and dislike bush. But what have we got to show for all our intelligence? No prez. No healthcare. No scripts for the elderly. Not even a compromise. When are we going to stoop to their level and try to win an election, not just beat the other guy? We need to change the game cauyse we keep losing the one they are playing. Kerry sucked, Gephart sucked, Sharpton was funny but wasn't going to win, Kucinich was never going to get even 20% of the Dem vote, Lieberman sucked the most of all and the 'leading' centrist neoliberal endorsed him (TNR), stupid woman whatever sucked, Dean folded under the pressure and was never going to gain the establishments vote (The NYT 'liberal outlet' railed against him daily). Picking Edwards as Veep was the most BS political move I've ever seen, an idiotic half-assed gesture to attempt to win the south that failed the second it was conceived.

Clark and Dean had a chance, in my opinion, but Clark was too wooden and who sabotaged Dean?? The left and the 'liberal' media, because they thought he was too anti-war and extreme.

The left rallied around Kerry, but relunctantly. VERY relunctantly. Who hadn't heard of 'JohnKerryisadouchebagbutvoteforhimanyway.com? What does that tell you about how much the voters liked him?? If the DNC gives a candidate the left and center can be proud of, we'll win an election. If not, not.

This over-spending by the GOP members of Congress is nothing more than a cynical vote-buying spree for the elections next year. It will, of course, be extremely successful, because every voter will only see the new roads and improved schools etc. and will ignore the fact the country is going broke to pay for them. I don't think the bread and circuse analogy really applies. The Senators threw events like that to keep the superfluous classes out of the way-fed so they wouldn't revolt. Pork barrel shit like this is more like the senators throwing a circus for themselves-it benefits their districts and their corporate constituents, but not really the voters themselves. no one is paying attention to what the house does-once the recession hits they will be, but thats probably about 2 years away.
