Firstly, sure, the NSX is a great machine in it's own right, but it isn't a Ferrari. Why you'd want to make it look like one is beyond me.
FM: Because it's STILL $50K, even though I'd be willing to bet it didn't cost him $50K for the mod. Even when you're throwing down a couple hundred grand, fifty G is still large; or at least not pin-money.
I look at it this way: This is just like spending $200 on a knock-off Patek Phillipe that retails for $30,000+. It may LOOK like the genuine article, but it certainly doesn't perform the same, nor is it handmade of the most precious of metals. Sure, it'll make people think you're a big baller. But YOU know it isn't real, and it's your own mug you have to look at when you shave. I prefer not looking at a poseur.
The joy in owning nice things is the satisfaction of knowing that you EARNED those things. You buy the Phillipe because you want to own the finest timepiece on the planet, something few people have. Anyone can buy a fake. You buy a Ferrari because you want to own the pinnacle of hand crafted automotive engineering, with a 80+ year thoroughbred history.
My grandfather was fond of saying, 'You can gold plate a turd, but it's still just a shiny piece of shit.'
