This reminds me of a special I watched once, where the mystery of ships sinking, was found out to be caused by massive release of gas from the ocean floor. Ships sail into the path of these giant bubbles unaware and are instantly sucked in and under.
It seems a little hard to believe that 730 “large” ships per year are lost . . . that’s a fair amount of lives, resources and money to go unnoticed . . .
