That site seemed to be all about getting money from Dow. The information cited was not linked to any actual clinical test data. I do question the long term 'study' as I am supposed to be a part of it, but have not had any sort of history or follow up. I had an implant on one side when I was 19 years old. God played a bit of a joke on me and I had only developed breast tissue on one side. A couple of years ago....at my first mammogram, I was diagnosed with an 'encapsulated rupture'. I was not suprised as the implant side was no longer 'perky'. It was also at that time when I learned that the average 'shelf life' of implants is 15 years. It had been 18 years since the original implant. At the time of my first surgery, I assumed, but don't remember actually being told that my implant would 'last a lifetime' (after all, I was 19 then). In 2003, I had the ruptured implant replaced. The doctor who did the replacement said the average 'shelf life' of an implant is 15 years. I expect when necessary again, I'll just have the damn thing removed and wear a one sided wonder bra or something. Meanwhile, it is nice to be able to wear a tank top again!
