What is WLAN WEP?

It's the security between your computer's network interface and the wireless access point, if you're on a wireless link. It's probably the only thing keeping your computing traffic from being readable in the clear in the neighbor's bedroom nextdoor.

Not only do you have free net access if you crack it, you also have free access to any data your victim is putting on their wireless LAN that they haven't taken steps to protect.

For example, your LinkSwarm login goes over the net in the clear (much to my chagrin). If you're sitting in a wireless laptop in your apartment and a Russian nuke spy is in a windowless van on the street outside, without encryption, he can watch you log in and has your password.
