TechTV's show Unscrewed had a guest advertising a product that was similar to this. They mentioned the Brita Filter method, but claimed that their product was far superior. I believe it was called The Grey Kangaroo or something.
I've used this method for years on cheap whiskey (Early Times) to make it smooth and hangover free. Twice through seems like plenty. Fools most into thinking it's aged bourbon.
