I get the shittiest speeds from bt. If I leave my downloads going overnight I might get a movie by morning if I'm lucky. And I've got a decent (3mb/s tested) cable connection. I still have the best luck with a great Kazaa client called Kazaa Lite K++.
Kmart: I'm guessing you're behind a NATting device and haven't forwarded the whole range of ports (TCP 6881-6889). If you're doing all your torrent shit through just one port, you're not going to reap the majestic benefits of our friend, the Torrent.
