Very scary stuff. Our P.M. is following the same path for the same reasons as Dubya and he is being very loud about it.
I believe the real reason is to let them circumvent constitutional rights and personal freedoms in the general population ( you and me ) in the name of internal security. Our boys have been trying to introduce a universal I.D. system for years and this could be the hook to land it on. After that comes restrictions on travel, starting with external exit and entry and moving on to internal ( crossing state borders or moving from town to town ) . The U.S.S.R. used a violent revolution to accomplish this but the right wing ( fascists ) tend to do it by stealth. They get themselves elected and then slowly change the rules so that we can't get rid of them.

As for Iraq, this is obviously going to become another Vietnam. The only answer is to pull the troops out and exterminate the terrorists by whatever means are available. Unfortunately this probably means that the above mentioned travel restrictions plus a lot more are going to become necesary.

People keep forgetting: for the most part we are not dealing with terrorists in Iraq. We are dealing with pissed off Iraqis who are upset because we killed maybe 20,000 or more of their men women and children. The restrictions start! Even citizens of Dubya's 'best little buddy' , ( us ) now need to provide prints and a digital mug shot on entry, that are processed electronically while we wait to check that we are who we claim before we can enter.
This is beside the point that we do not need a visa. This is done whilst we are filling out the visa waiver form.

it was the 'best little buddy' thing. I get confused between the uk and australia when they don't clearly identify themselves, specially 'cos they all have the queen on the money. i have the same problem with isreal, except it doesn't have the queen anymore.
