To say that flag is about 'heritage not hate' is stupid. It represents a heritage of hate. It is used to intimidate blacks and remind the former slaveholders of their 'glory days.' It is just bad for America in general.

Not exactly. Everyone always makes the same argument, 'Oh the flag stood for slavery.'. Slavery was on the bottom of the list of what the confederacy stood for. Do some research and you'll find some things that they never taught you in school.

The South was for the most part an unindustrialized agrarian supply base for the northern states which were much richer and well off. Even now the amount of money in the states reflects this. The confederate flag was to a large a symbol of poor southern nationalism. Slavery was mainly a lever the north used against the south to rally support against them. This is reflected in that the years after the war showed a huge return to racism and unequal treatment. I think in general now it is largely a sign of southern pride and discontent with American policies.
