unlike crapping, death is something none of us have done yet. talking about some things at certain (appropriate) times helps us identify with the fact that everyone fears the unknown, and that, somehow, yeilds some sort of comfort.
i have to agree that posting political opinions on the net is useless, like sending an annonymous letter to the president saying "ask me about my grandchildren". Nobody gives a solid gold shit. However, this doesn't mean that educated debates about current events should be avoided, as it is those debates which help to change directions over time.
