Most amazing chair you'll see

by Omar Sep 14, 2007 fileunderFound in Furniture

First it was the most Amazing table, next came the Amazing couch, now comes the Amazing chair to round out your Amazing furniture collection. Invented by mad scientists as Cornell University, the Robotic Chair puts itself back together after it's been broken. Yes, like the T-1000.

As you can see, this is the beginning stages of the robot uprising. How can you kill something that will just heal itself?

Note about the clip: this is my little edited version that of the original, where I just added the opening song to Ghost in the Shell for effect.

Update: Thanks to all the stumblers checking out this video!

Pretty cool. The music goes perfectly with the clip. Read more about this robotic chair in this Cornell article.

Now that's some creative out-of-the-box thinking!!!

The music's from the opening scene of the film "Akira".

Ghost in the Shell. I even linked to the intro video! Akira is faster and features a male choir instead of a high pitched (I'm assuming) female. Both are fantastic songs though!

yeah deff. GitS - thats amazing, but can you sit on it?

I just wanted to add how absolutely perfect the GitS opening worked for the video. I honest to God made VERY minor modifications to the audio. The only thing I did was loop a 20 second portion, and everything just fit perfectly. Well, IMO anyway, I think it works well :)

why would you want a chair that breaks?
8.  avatar Erik  Sep 19, 2007 11:09am

You wouldn't. I think that this is a proof-of-concept kind of thing. This chair has no practical value. Just make a chair that doesn't break like they've been doing for thousands of years. It's a project that examines the possibility of mechanical self-reparation.

So does this represent a device that can be used to reverse entropy?

What about the military applications? When will it be available for service in the war against terrorism? We need such tools to defend our freedom!

What a waste of time and money! .... just say you used this approach on something else umm a tank then it would only be of any use if the tank broke in percific places ,, the chances of that happening are rather slim ,,, eg i could break one them chair legs in half where there is no motor and it aint gonna be able to fix itself .. what a retarded contraption ..... nice tune though theres a drum and bass remix of that by a fella called makai and another remix of his version by ill skillz thats worth a ganders

neat use of technology..

but why would a chair need to fall apart in the first place?

So you can prove it can fix itself!
It's like making a bow and arrow out of a Bic pen (make a hole in the middle). You don't need a bow - pen, but u made one anyway for the heck of it. Things like this incite creativity - by thinking about something like this and actually making it, you will get new ideas to improve upon it, or apply the original idea to other things. You can't tell me that you can't agree - no one is so uncreative (i hope).

Jemaine and Bret are on to something
