Education: Faith Based Schools

In the past few weeks there has been an uproar about faith based school funding in Ontario. Since Canada is a Christian country, Christian (specifically Catholic) schools have received significant funding from the Ontario government. Some of the other "religions" have attempted to capitalize on this and have demanded that Ontario equally fund Islamic, Jewish and other faith based schools. Apparently, the Church Cult of Scientology has attempted to cash in as well and has asked the Ontario government for money to build new schools.

As always there are two sides to this debate. On one side, you have the atheists and communists who argue that only public schools should receive funding because they open their arms to everyone and do not exclude people based on religion. The Commies in disguise (AKA NDP) are on this side of the debate.

On the other side of the debate, several pillars of the community, distinguished gentlemen and an assortment of criminals argue that faith based schools are inclusive and should receive equal funding. They point out that these schools include everyone from their specific faith.

For example, Islamic schools will open their doors to all Muslims (Sunni, Kurds & shiite will be separated of course, in order to avoid bloodbaths and declarations of jihad) so it will be an inclusive school. Similarly, Jewish schools will allow any Jewish student to learn in their classrooms. Their arguments are solid since it's clear that these faith based schools are inclusive, not exclusive as the atheists and communists will have you believe.

It's a simple concept. If you're a Jew you're allowed to go to Jewish schools but if you try to enter the premises of a Catholic or Islamic school you will be told to get the heck out. If you're a Catholic, you won't get any special treatment either. Stick with your own kind or risk being shouted down and chased by a rival faction.

The detractors of faith based schools have claimed that additional funding for other types of schools is a step backwards. Shockingly, even Premier Dalton McGuinty is making such outlandish claims. He said, "I think that's regressive. I think that takes us backwards. I think our responsibility is to continue to improve the publicly funded system of education."

Some people have made even more outrageous claims, comparing separation of faiths to the racial segregation that took place a long time ago. In reality, nothing can be further than the truth. Racial segregation took place way back then. Inclusive faith based schools segregation is taking place now. Can you see the difference? Back then and now. Racial segregation took place before, inclusive faith based schools segregation is taking place now. One has nothing to do with the other. You simply can not compare something that happened before to something that is happening now. It makes no sense and it derails the open and honest debate that the pro faith based schools groups are bringing to the table.

Faith based schools are a good thing for Canada. As a Christian country, we can mold and adjust the screening process and filter out the students who have selected the wrong path. For instance, if a Muslim student who is averaging 90% and a Catholic student who is averaging 85% are both trying to get into U of T, the Catholic student would get in while the Muslim student is placed on the waiting list.

The athiests and communists may claim that this is exclusive but it's obviously not since U of T would not outright reject the Muslim student's application. He would just be placed on the waiting list. Let's be realistic about this. What type of people does Canada want to succeed? Young bright Christians who will go to heaven after they die or young, hell bound sinners?

Ironically, this system is a bit darwinian. If you come to a Christian country and decide to subscribe to the wrong religion there will be consequences and repercussions. If you do not adapt to the right religion you will fail. Survival of the fittest. There is only one religion that is correct. Why is it so hard for people to select the right one? If they can't get this right they're no better than the scientologists.

Canada is a Christian country?

Where did you get that from? No religion defines Canada, thank you very much.

Faith-based education is an oxymoron. Canada has separate (Catholic) schools because of a historical accident. They are an anachronism which should be eliminated as quickly as possible.

Look, if you want to indoctrinate your kids with some religious faith, fine, but do it in your own time and on your own nickel.

Jesus said he would return

Jesus said he would return during the lifetimes of the people that were around when he died. He didn't. He won't. He's dead and that's that. The Christian religions were developed mainly by pagan cultures who took the Old Testament and viewed it from a LITERAL standpoint because they were heathens that were used to believing in myth and praying to idols (the Jewish people NEVER believed in the LITERAL story of Creation, in fact, all of the symbolism and inner truths about the deity that the Christians call G-d are unknown to Christian believers).

To me, people prating to a 2000 year old carpenter is just as ridiculous as Scientologists and their weird alien cult, but I will defend to the death the right of all people to believe what they wish as long as they keep it out of government and out of my tax paying pockets.
